POSITION SUMMARY
The Risk and Safety Coordinator develops, implements, and manages workplace safety programs, conducting training, leading inspections, investigating incidents, maintaining records such as OSHA/MIOSHA logs, Workers' Compensation, claims, and Safety Committee meetings, promoting a strong safety culture through policy development and employee engagement to mitigate risks and prevent injuries, and ensuring compliance with regulations and protocols including, but not limited to, OSHA/MIOSHA, MCAs, CAAS, and the State of Michigan,. In addition, The Risk and Safety Coordinator manages workplace injury claims from start to finish, acting as a liaison between injured employees, supervisors, managers, Human Resources, medical providers, and insurers, focusing on prompt care, accurate documentation, compliance, facilitating safe return-to-work (RTW) programs, and implementing safety measures to prevent future incidents, ensuring efficient claim resolution and employee support. They act as a liaison with regulatory bodies and internal teams, focusing on proactive hazard identification and corrective actions.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Prepare reports, maintain data, and ensure all activities comply with federal, state, and company regulations.
2. Prepare reports, maintain data, and ensure all activities comply with the protocols set forth by State of Michigan and local Medical Control Authorities (MCAs) and CAAS requirements.
3. Assist in developing safety training, conduct risk assessments, and recommend policies to reduce workplace accidents and illnesses.
4. Investigate incidents, document witness statements, and ensure all accident records are thorough and accurate.
5. Receive, process, and manage all aspects of workers' compensation claims, from initial reporting to final resolution, including documentation and file maintenance.
6. Serve as the main contact for injured employees, explaining benefits, coordinating medical appointments, and providing guidance throughout the recovery process.
7. Work with supervisors, HR, medical providers, third-party administrators (TPAs), and insurance carriers to ensure smooth communication and timely action.
8. Develop and manage light duty/modified duty programs to facilitate employees' safe return to work.
9. Communicates effectively and tactfully with all staff and management both internally and externally with contracted facilities, hospitals, other external agencies, patients and their families.
10. Investigates all types of complaints, issues, work-related injuries, and possible protocol or policy violations, as appropriate, in collaboration with the respective department manager or Leadership Team member.
11. Leads and monitors ongoing driver safety program, develops corrective action plans, provides remediation/re-education, and recommends disciplinary action, as needed.

13. Develops, prepares, and submits various reports as directed or requested. Collects and analyzes report data for trends, issues, or variances and provides recommendations based on the analysis.

15. Leads by example through strict adherence of company policies and procedures.
16. Represents the integrity, philosophy, and company values, including company policies and procedures, in a positive manner both internally and externally.
17. Assists with the development of company policies and procedures.
18. Collaborates with House Supervisors, FTOs, Field Training Coordinator, and Education staff and assists in the administration of continuing education, in-service training, and Field Training Program.
19. Ensure ambulances meet regulatory readiness standards.
20. Have knowledge of the vehicles medical and non-medical equipment and its proper use.
21. Required to communicate with all members of the health care and public safety agencies with courtesy and respect.
22. Required to adhere to and follow current policy and procedures.
23. Safely drive all emergency and non-emergency vehicles.
24. Complete all other duties as assigned or requested.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES RELATED TO PATIENT PRIVACY (HIPAA)
- The employee is expected to protect the privacy of all patient information in accordance with the company's privacy policies, procedures, and practices, as required by federal (and state) law, and in accordance with general principles of professionalism as a health care provider. Failure to comply with the company's policies and procedures on patient privacy may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment or of membership or association with Patriot Ambulance Service.
- The employee may access protected health information and other patient information only to the extent that is necessary to complete their job duties. The employee may only share such information with those who have a need to know specific patient information necessary to complete their job responsibilities related to treatment, payment, or other company operations.
- The employee is encouraged and expected to report, without the threat of retaliation, and concerns, incidents, or issues regarding the company's policies and procedures on patient privacy and any observed practices in violation of that policy to the designated Privacy Officer.
- The employee is expected to actively participate in mandatory company privacy training and is required to communicate privacy policy information to coworkers, students, patients, and other in accordance with company policy.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Valid State of Michigan Driver's license and approved driving status based on acceptable Motor Vehicle Record and insurance requirements.
2. Current State of Michigan licensed EMS Personnel (EMT or Paramedic).
3. Meets credentialing requirements and obtain approval to provide patient care in the counties or Medical Control Authorities (MCAs) in which Patriot Ambulance Service is approved to operate.
4. Current applicable credentialing certifications based on level of state licensure including BLS, ACLS, PALS/PEARS, and Trauma certifications.
5. Valid State of Michigan Driver's license and approved driving status based on acceptable Motor Vehicle Record and insurance requirements.
6. Background check must be clear of a felony conviction.
7. Minimum of 5 years EMS experience.
8. Must possess basic operational knowledge of computers and software applications. Must be able to effectively generate reports, analyze and interpret data, and make decisions based on the available information.
9. Must be able to communicate effectively with excellent public speaking skills.
10. Must possess the ability to objectively and effectively provide coaching, counseling, or remediation to staff in a constructive and positive manner.
11. Excellent critical thinking, organizational, interpersonal relationship, and verbal and written communication skills.
12. Ability to objectively and accurately evaluate performance of subordinates.
13. Strong knowledge of workers' compensation laws and regulations.
14. Must possess strong data analysis and problem-solving abilities.
15. Must possess strong skills in conflict resolution and rational decision-making.
